The Bedford Police Department will be participating in a nationwide initiative called "Prescription Drug Take-Back Day." This program was spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration and will take place on Saturday, September 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bedford Police Department parking lot, located at 2121 L. Don Dodson Drive. The Police Department will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction. The service is free and anonymous (no questions asked). You do not have to be a citizen of Bedford to participate in this program.
“Prescription drug abuse is the Nation’s fastest-growing drug problem, and take-back events like this one are an indispensable tool for reducing the threat that the diversion and abuse of these drugs pose to public health,” said Director of National Drug Control Policy Gil Kerlikowske. “The Federal/state/and local collaboration represented in this initiative is key in our national efforts to reduce pharmaceutical drug diversion and abuse.”
Collection sites in local communities can be found by going to www.dea.gov. This site will be continuously updated with new take-back locations. For more information regarding Bedford Police Department's participation in this program, please contact the Community Services Division at 817.952.2444.
