Two men rescued and one arrested in Pyramid Lake boat accident
On Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 3:55 p.m., deputies from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Parks Bureau at Pyramid Lake responded to a call of a capsized boat. The deputies who were nearby saw that a ski boat had collided with a rocky cliff faced area of the shoreline. The boat was overturned and all the occupants had been ejected.
The deputies saw two males in the water attempting to tread water and stay afloat. They threw life rings and life jackets to the males and pulled them from the water. One dog was rescued and a second dog was recovered deceased from underneath the capsized boat. Both males sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The deputies spoke to the operator of the boat, Juan Rodriguez, Male, 44 years-of-age and resident of Quartz Hill about the cause of the crash. While speaking to Mr. Rodriguez, the deputies saw him exhibit signs of intoxication. They conducted a field sobriety test and subsequently arrested Mr. Rodriguez for Boating Under the Influence Causing an Injury. He was booked at Santa Clarita Sheriff Station and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
