LA County Agencies Work Together to Clean Up County of LA Parks Closed Due to Windstorm Damages (Fri.Dec.2)

On Friday, December 2, 2011, County of Los Angeles—Arcadia County Park, Santa Anita Golf Course, Descanso Gardens and the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden remain closed today due to severe damage from recent storms.
A collaborative effort among Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich, the Chief Executive Office and its County Office of Emergency Management, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Parks and Recreation is enabling a comprehensive, strategic cleanup response to the severe damage to countless trees, plants and certain structures. This coordinated effort will return the parks to safe and clean conditions for the public to enjoy as soon as possible.
Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and Department of Public Works (DPW) tree crews are hard at work and will continue to be throughout the weekend at Arcadia County Park and Santa Anita Golf Course. Santa Anita Golf Course will re-open tomorrow, December 3, 2011. Arcadia Park will remain closed throughout the weekend.
On Monday, DPR and DPW tree crews will begin focusing efforts at extensive and comprehensive clean up at Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden and Descanso Gardens. The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden and Descanso Gardens will remain closed to the public until further notice.
The Sheriff’s Department will increase its presence at the closed parks in order to secure them until they reopen.
The Parks Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department polices 149 county parks throughout Los Angeles County. The Sheriff's Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all county parks.
