Darrel Simeon Bethea, Wanted for attempted murder, B/M, 6', 150 lbs, 2" scar on face, tattoo of "young rell" on arm

Suspect Wanted for Attempted Murder

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department have identified the individual responsible for the shooting on March 9, 2012 on Newport Road. Warrants for the Arrest of Darrel Simeon Bethea (20 years old) have been secured. Bethea is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and Assault With a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.

Around 4:32PM on March 9, 2012 Darrel Bethea shot Tyeus Nicholas (19 years old). After the shooting took place on Newport Road, the victim was being driven to the hospital when their vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Village Drive and Roxie Avenue. Nicholas was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and is currently recovering at an undisclosed location.

Shooting (3/9/2012)

On March 9, 2012 at approximately 4:32 pm, officers from the Cross Creek Patrol District responded to the 700 block of Newport Road (Montclair subdivision) in reference to a report of shots fired. While officers were responding to the call of shots fired, officers from the Campbellton Patrol District were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Village Drive and Roxie Avenue. Once officers arrived to the scene of the collision, it was discovered that a passenger in the motor vehicle was suffering from a gunshot wound. Further investigation would also reveal that the occupants of the motor vehicle had just left an address on Newport Road after a suspect had fired shots at their motor vehicle. At this time the victim has been transported to a local medical facility to receive emergency medical treatment. The name of the victim is currently being withheld until such time detectives can notify immediate family members and ascertain the identity of a suspect.

The investigation is ongoing at this time, however if anyone made any observations at the time of the shooting, they are asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 433-1885 or Crime Stoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477). Additional information will be released at such time it becomes available.
