TEAMWORK = AWESOME POLICE WORK! K9 apprehends 2 suspects with the help of Officers and a vigilant neighbor

TEAMWORK = AWESOME POLICE WORK!

When a vigilant neighbor saw suspects entering a home next door during a time of the day when no one was home, she called 9-1-1. It was a classic case of neighbors watching out for neighbors. When Police arr...ived, the suspects fled on foot and officers quickly secured the perimeter to apprehend them. The APD K-9 Team responded to the scene and located the first suspect hiding in a neighbor’s backyard inside a shed. Other neighbors alerted officers that a second suspect was walking near the immediate area and the perimeter was expanded to include a larger area, where the K-9 Team also took the second suspect into custody in a backyard hiding in some shrubbery.

Heather Southerland was walking her two-year-old son along Kerry Street when a neighbor alerted her to the burglary.

She reiterated that neighbors look out for each other and said, “We know one another.” Southerland said she’s never attended a Neighborhood Watch meeting, but she plans to join her neighbors for the next gathering. This highlights the importance of becoming engaged in the community and watching out for others.

A special thanks to the vigilant neighbor that initially called Police. Without this prompt notification, APD would not have been in a position to respond and apprehend these suspects so quickly. We also want to thank the West District patrol officers, School Resource officers, and our K-9 Team which responded quickly to safely resolve the situation and apprehend these burglary suspects.
