Thefts from Vehicles
WHAT: Thefts from Vehicles
WHERE: City of San Luis Obispo
WHEN: Month of May 2012
During the month of May, the San Luis Obispo Police Department has seen an increase in the number of reported thefts from vehicles. To date, the Police Department has documented approximately 50 thefts from vehicle this past month. The majority of the reported thefts occurred between the late evening and early morning hours. According to the reporting parties, most of the victim vehicles were left unlocked with valuables inside the vehicles.
During the past two weeks several arrests have been made of individuals being in possession of stolen property. Many of the stolen items recovered have been related to the reported thefts from vehicles.
As we approach the busy Memorial Day holiday weekend the San Luis Obispo Police Department wants the public to be aware of the recent increase of thefts from vehicles. The Police Department would like encourage everyone to lock all the doors to their vehicle when leaving it unattended. If you are securing your vehicle for the evening, it is best not to leave valuable items inside (i.e. purses, wallets, cell phones, and laptop computers). When having to leave valuables inside your vehicle, keep them in a location where they can not be seen through a window. When possible, securing your valuable items inside your vehicles locked trunk is always your best option. Finally if you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood or downtown San Luis Obispo, please contact the Police Department.
