Questionable Letter Received by Residents.
The Verona Police Department is receiving inquiries from residents regarding a letter that is being mailed to them. This letter has been designed to look like official correspondence from a government agency.
The letter, sent from a company called HomeServe USA Repair Management Corp, is intended to “notify” you that the water line coming from the Township of Verona water system into your home may not be covered by your homeowners insurance in case of a break or damage, and that you can be responsible for thousands of dollars in costs to replace the line if there is a problem with it.
While the Verona Police Department takes no position on the value of the service that HomeServe is offering, we would like our residents who receive this letter to know that this company is not affiliated with, nor are they an approved vendor of, the Township of Verona.
If you are thinking about entering into a service agreement with HomeServe or any other company, please take the time to thoroughly investigate the company before signing ANY forms, documents, or contracts. We would also suggest that you consult with your insurance agent to determine if you already have coverage.
