LASD and other Law Enforcement agencies are the "Guardians of the Flame" and will open the Special Olympics Summer Games tomorrow.

For more than 30 years law enforcement officers from throughout Southern California have had the honor to be the “Guardians of the Flame” for Special Olympics and go above and beyond the call of duty year-round with their participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run in Southern California is one of the leading programs in the world having raised nearly $1.3 million in 2011 with participants from over 120 law enforcement agencies.

More than 1,100 athletes from across Southern California will compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals at Summer Games on June 9 and 10 at California State University, Long Beach. Opening ceremonies kick-off the games with officers and athletes lighting the flame at 10:00am.
