Fireworks are Illegal In Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara Police Department is reminding the community that fireworks are dangerous and illegal in Santa Barbara. Fireworks cause approximately 10,000 injuries each year and cause significant property damage. These include sparklers, fountains, and bottle rockets. Although fireworks can be purchased in some communities in California, they are illegal in the City of Santa Barbara.

According to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, “A common misconception among fireworks users is that sparklers are the safest way to experiment with fireworks. A sparkler burns at 1200°F to 3000°F. That’s hotter than the heat needed to melt certain types of glass.”

This year’s 4th of July fireworks display will occur at West Beach at 9:00 p.m. The Santa Barbara Police Department will have a significant presence along Cabrillo Boulevard and throughout the city to ensure that all spectators and visitors enjoy a safe holiday celebration. Anyone found in possession of or using fireworks may be arrested or issued a citation to appear in court. Please enjoy the holiday without the use of illegal fireworks.
