Santa Rosa Police arrest gang participants in four counties for gang assault following a car show.

CR#12-7588: UPDATE #1: Santa Rosa Police arrest gang participants in four counties for gang assault following car show.

PRESS RELEASE #1
On June 16, 2012 at approximately 6:50 pm, Santa Rosa Police Officers were dispatched to the Youth Community Park located at 1701 Fulton Road for a report of fight involving numerous gang members. The fight occurred during a car show at the park and it appeared that several subjects in the crowd appeared to be affiliated with a local criminal street gang.

When officers arrived, they contacted several witnesses and victims. Officers learned that a group of subjects started an argument with a 40 year old male victim who was at the park with his family. The victim’s 18 year old daughter attempted to intervene and was punched by one of the suspects. The father tried to stop the assault and was knocked to the ground where he was repeatedly punched and kicked by several subjects. The father lost consciousness during the assault. The assault instigated a large fight where three more members of the family were assaulted. The suspects were dressed in attire indicative of gang participation and yelled gang challenges at the victim.

The suspects fled the area prior to the patrol officers arriving on scene. The 18 year old female sustained significant injuries to her face and her father received a serious laceration to his face. Both were transported to a local hospital where they received medical attention and released. The other three victims did not receive significant injuries during the assault and did not require medical treatment.

Some of the suspects were seen leaving in a white Chevrolet pickup. A similar vehicle was located at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Russell Avenue and one suspect was identified and taken into custody at one of the apartments.

Carl William Hastie, a 27 year old Marin County resident was later booked into the Sonoma County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault resulting in Serious Injury and two Gang Enhancements. Three counts of Battery are being requested against Haiste for the assault on the three additional victims.

This assault was gang related and the Gang Crimes Team was called out to take over the investigation. It does not appear that the victims knew the suspects. Additional follow up by detectives is being conducted in an attempt to identify additional suspects. The incident occurred during a car show which was taking place at the park. There was a large crowd in attendance and police believe that there may be others who witnessed the assault.
