Van Nuys Homicide Information

On Friday, June 29, 2012, at approximately 2300 hours, the victim, Raul Lopez, a male Hispanic, 38 years of age, was working inside his place of business in the 15500 block of Ventura Boulevard. The suspect, a male African-American, was inside the business along with four other male Afrcan-Americans. An argument broke out between one of the men and the victim. As the argument escalated, the victim picked up a chair and was successful in moving the five men out of the restaurant. Once the men were outside, the victim put down the chair and looked up to see the suspect, described as approximately 5’6” to 5’7” tall, skinny build, and short hair remove a handgun from his clothing and point it at the victim. The suspect fired one round at the victim, striking him in the torso.

The suspects fled the location in a dark colored SUV.

The victim was transported to a local hospital were he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at 0002 hours on June 30, 2012.


Detectives following up leads and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects.
