(News Release) Avoid the 100 – Los Angeles County DUI Campaign

2012 INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY AVOID CAMPAIGN
UPDATE 1

Leading in to 4th of July night, nearly 500 arrests were already made by Task Force since Friday .

The Independence Day holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 100 DUI deployments which began Friday, June 29 in Los Angeles County.

From 12:01 AM Friday June 29, 2012 through Midnight Monday, July 2, 2012, officers representing 100 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 497 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Arrest statistics are still coming in and will be reported in the final report due out this week.

DUI arrest data collection will continue through midnight Saturday, July 7, 2012. Law enforcement officials are continuing DUI efforts throughout the county and region. Additionally, CHP Areas throughout the state have all available officers patrolling freeways and county roads throughout the weekend. (Note: The 2011 campaign stats were for a 5-day effort – and cannot be compared to the 9-day 2012 enforcement since the 4th of July fell between two weekends this year)

California Highway Patrol Maximum Enforcement Period: CHP assigned all available officers to the region’s freeways, state highways and unincorporated roads beginning 6 PM Tuesday through midnight Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to watch and report impaired drivers each and every trip around town or during summer vacations: Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1 anytime you encounter that dangerous driver.

Avoid programs, named for the number of police agencies in each county, will be conducting other enforcement efforts during special events with identified DUI problems.
