Sobriety and Drivers License Checkpoint Notification
The Folsom Police Department will be conducting an impaired driver checkpoint on Friday July 13th from 1900 – 0300. It will begin at 8:00 p.m. and run for 5-7 hours. Traffic flowing through the checkpoint will be contacted by uniformed officers, who will be checking for alcohol and/or drug-impaired drivers. Officers will also check to make sure all drivers have a valid driver's license.
The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety; increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and serves as a deterrent to potential impaired and unlicensed drivers. Remember, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Report Drunk Drivers. Call 911.
“The summer months traditionally see a rise in DUI deaths and injuries,” said Chris Murphy, Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety. “Let’s turn this trend around in 2012. Take measures to use a designated sober driver and call 9-1-1 to report a suspected drunk driver should you witness the tale-tale signs of impairment; such as weaving, crossing the center line, or a driver slow to start when the signal light turns green.”
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Please direct any inquiries to Officer Bill Bradshaw at bbradshaw@folsom.ca.us. Media is encouraged to attend the checkpoint in an effort to spread awareness about the impacts of drinking and driving.
