Inmate vs. Inmate Jail Disturbance - Twin Towers
At 3:30PM, Wednesday, July 25, four inmates began fighting in a housing pod in Tower I of the Twin Towers Correctional Facility of the Los Angeles County jail system. Other inmates then became involved and the 78 inmates in the housing pod divided along racial lines. Deputies ordered the inmates to stop fighting, but the inmates did not comply. Deputies used pepper spray and sting balls to quell the disturbance and the inmates stopped fighting. No other force was used by deputies.
Jail medical professionals triaged all of the inmates for possible injuries. This included, as a precaution, treating all 78 inmates for exposure to pepper spray. As of 7:30PM, seven inmates had been transported to an area hospital for minor to moderate injuries, by either the LA Fire Dept. or by radio car by the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. There were no serious injuries.
The fighting between the inmates lasted off and on for approximately 15 minutes. The cause of the fight is under investigation. No Sheriff’s Department personnel were injured.
