Maserati Theft Suspect Identified as Jason Steigerwald. Suspect WANTED. Car Recovered.

On July 18, 2012, a blue 2008 Maserati Granturismo valued at $75,000 was stolen from Motor Village LA. The suspect posed as a customer in order to steal the vehicle.

The suspect asked the salesperson for the ignition key to listen to the engine. The salesperson provided the key and the suspect sat in the driver’s seat and started the engine. While the salesperson was holding on to the opened driver’s door, the suspect put the vehicle in drive and drove away northbound on Figueroa. The theft of the Maserati was captured on security surveillance video.

Detectives sought assistance from the public through the media, to identify the suspect captured on the surveillance video.

Detectives received numerous tips from law enforcement agencies and the public. This assistance led to the identification of Suspect Jason Allen Steigerwald as the person who stole the Maserati. Suspect Steigerwald was released on parole on July 14, 2012, four days prior to the theft of the Maserati.

The 2008 blue Maserati Granturismo in this case was recovered on August 21, 2012, undamaged.

Detectives are now asking for the public’s assistance in locating Suspect Steigerwald. He is known to frequent the Los Angeles and Las Vegas areas. If the public has information regarding the whereabouts of Jason Steigerwald please call (800)299-TRAP (8727).
