SCV Bank robber exchanges gunfire with LASD deputies in Lancaster

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the 45900 block of Desert Springs Drive, Lancaster, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved hit shooting.

No deputies were injured and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned that deputies responded to Bank of America regarding an Armed Bank Robbery that just occurred at the 26800 block of North Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus.

The suspect fled the location and led the deputies in a pursuit northbound on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway. He exited the freeway after Lancaster Sheriff's Station deputies laid down spike strips along the freeway and caused the vehicle's tires to puncture. The suspect stopped his vehicle in a cul-de-sac on the 45900 block of Desert Springs Drive, Lancaster and refused to comply with deputies' commands to drop his weapon. After several commands and the use of less lethal weapons, the suspect fired his weapon at deputies and a deputy involved shooting occurred.

The suspect's name has not been released.

Whenever an Officer-Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies, and it results in a fatality, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Offices of the L.A. Co. District Attorney and the L.A. Co. Coroner, in addition to Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the sheriff's department throughout every phase of these thorough investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
