The Nevada Highway Patrol would like to remind citizens and visitors to celebrate this New Year's responsibly.

Let's work together to make this holiday, and every day, safe for everyone traveling. Please use these tips to plan a safe New Year's celebration for everyone:

If you are going out:
• Have a sober designated driver with your group the entire evening.

• Schedule a ride home with a car service or cab company before your event. Have your plan for a safe ride home in place.

• Book a room in one of the many hotels near your event and avoid the risk of driving because even buzzed driving is drunk driving.

If you are planning a Party:
• Be the responsible host and confirm that at least one person in each group is prepared to be the sober designated driver and/or has a plan to get home.

• Provide plenty of food to keep your guests from drinking on an empty stomach.

• Offer non-alcoholic beverages for designated drivers and others who prefer not to drink alcohol.

• Be prepared by having the number of a taxi service on hand for those who need a ride. Also, be prepared for those few guests who need to sleep it off and have a space ready for them in your home.
