Seat Belt Campaign kicks off Thursday

Click it or Ticket Kicks Off Thursday
Law Enforcement, Emergency Responders and Those Whose Lives Have Been Changed by Seat Belts Joining to Educate Public

WHAT: Click it or Ticket Press Kickoff
WHEN: Thursday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE: UMC Trauma Center Parking Lot
Twenty-nine law enforcement agencies across the state will join forces May 20 through June 2 for the bi-annual Click It or Ticket campaign. Clark County residents seem to need more reminding than ever.

Preliminary data for 2012 shows that motor vehicle occupant fatalities
rose 60 percent in 2012 over 2011 in our community.
Making matters worse, Clark County is the only county in the state whose unrestrained fatality percentage rose in 2012; 50.7 percent of motor vehicle occupant fatalities were unrestrained.
Another 12 fatalities in Clark County are currently listed as ‘unknown restraint use,’ so the percentage could climb higher.
Wearing your seat belt is the simplest way to double your chances of surviving a crash. No one knows that better than someone whose life has dramatically changed because of use or non-use of a seat belt.

Local law enforcement personnel, who will be joined by emergency responders and trauma surgeons, will also lay out their plans to catch those not belted and issue them the all-important education: a citation. That citation carries a $25 fine, but with court costs and
administration fees violators will owe $67.50—far less than the cost of a crash if they are unbelted.
