Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run - Thursday, May 30, 2013

On Thursday, May 30, 2013, members of the Costa Mesa Police Department will be participating in the Special Olympics Torch Run. This event was created in 1981, and has grown to include more than 125 runs in 48 nations. Since its inception 32 years ago, more than 142,000 law enforcement officers have raised $414 million for the Special Olympics movement worldwide. In 2012, more than 500 southern California officers and 120 law enforcement agencies raised $1.2 million. This is the largest grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics.

Costa Mesa will be running leg 22 and will be receiving the torch from the Newport Beach Police Department at approximately 1130 a.m. Our team will run a route through Costa Mesa eventually handing the torch off to State Parole on Campus north of Bristol at approximately 12:15 p.m. The route will pass in front of City Hall at approximately 12:00 p.m.
