Officers arrest parolee who fled the scene after colliding with a vehicle and crashing into a tree on Adams Ave.

On Wednesday, 06-04-13, Costa Mesa police arrested a 27-year old male after the suspect fled from officers in his truck at a high rate of speed along Harbor Blvd before crashing.

At about 3:30 p.m. Department of Corrections Fugitive Team officers, and Costa Mesa police officers driving marked patrol cars, attempted a car stop on parolee Jerald Hardcastle who was driving a red Chevrolet Silverado. Hardcastle was being investigated for a possible parole violation, and was on parole for prior robbery and burglary convictions.

Upon attempting the car stop near Wilson Street and Center Way, Hardcastle fled at a high rate of speed northbound through the 2300 Harbor Blvd business complex. All officers terminated pursuing Hardcastle through the lot, while the Huntington Beach Police helicopter continued monitoring Hardcastle’s vehicle from overhead.

Hardcastle drove 80 m.p.h. northbound on Harbor Blvd through moderate traffic before cutting through the Ace Hardware parking lot at 2666 Harbor Blvd. He continued northbound on Peterson Place prior to turning eastbound on Adams Ave and colliding with a white Hyundai Santa Fe, forcing the Santa Fe to crash into a cinder block wall on the north side of Adams Ave on the Connell Chevrolet lot at 2828 Harbor Blvd. The 71-year old female driver of the Santa Fe was uninjured.

Hardcastle later crashed his truck into a tree along the north side of Adams Ave in front of the leasing office at Pinecreek Village Apartments at 1300 Adams Ave. Hardcastle fled from his truck on foot, leaving his 33-year old female front passenger in the truck.

Hardcastle forced his way into a nearby unoccupied second story apartment in the apartment complex and was later arrested inside the apartment by arriving police officers. Hardcastle’s passenger was transported to Hoag Hopsital for a complaint of pain to her neck caused from the collision. Hardcastle was booked per the listed charges at Orange County Jail, Santa Ana.
