Assault with a deadly weapon, involving at least 4 subjects, occurred in the 100 blk of Magnolia on Saturday 09-21-13 at about 2:00 AM.

On September 21, 2013 at approximately 2:17 am, officers responded to the 100 block of Magnolia Street to investigate the report of a large group fighting in the street. When officers arrived, the fight had dispersed with the participants leaving in different directions. Officers found a blood trail that led to 126 E. 18th Street, where they found a White male adult, who had sustained facial and head injuries during the incident. Witnesses reported this male had been hit with a blunt object while fighting with three unidentified males. Reportedly two of the unknown males may have received stab wounds during the altercation. Local hospitals were notified of the fight and asked to call the Costa Mesa Police Department if patients with stab wounds arrived at their facilities.

The male located on 18th Street was subsequently transported to Hoag Hospital and treated for serious facial and head injuries. He was admitted and is currently listed in stable condition. The police were later notified that two Hispanic adult males sought medical attention at Hoag Hospital for stab wounds. Due to the nature of his injury, one of the males was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and was admitted. The other male was treated and released from Hoag Hospital. Both of these males were identified at the hospital as active participants of a Costa Mesa based criminal street gang. A third subject, who is also a participant of the same criminal street gang, has been identified and is being sought to determine his involvement in the altercation.

This incident is currently being investigated as an assault with a deadly weapon. The Costa Mesa Police Department’s Gang Investigations Unit is conducting further investigation to identify and locate other witnesses and possible suspects.

Any persons with information regarding this incident are encouraged to contact Costa Mesa Police Department Gang Investigator Jason Chamness @ (714) 754-5055.
