Incident at Elementary School

An elementary school student was struck in the leg by a small projectile shortly before school began this morning.

This morning, shortly before 8:00 a.m., several students in the field area at the College Park Elementary School campus heard what sounded like BBs being shot. At the same time, a 10-year old student was struck in the calf by a small metal projectile similar to a BB. The child was treated in the health office and returned to class.

School staff has implemented additional safety precautions which include enhanced supervision and assigned student-designated areas at the campus. Costa Mesa Police responded to the school yard and are currently investigating the incident in conjunction with the school district. The police and school staff have ongoing communication.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the CMPD Detective Bureau at (714) 754-5205.
