Woman arrested for driving recklessly & endangering pedestrians, her 2nd similar incident within a two-week period.

On Tuesday 10-15-13, just before 8:00 a.m., Costa Mesa police officers responded to the 1600 block of Labrador Drive regarding the report of a woman driving recklessly on neighbors’ lawns and doing circles in the street in her silver Toyota Camry.

The reckless driving apparently stemmed from an earlier domestic disturbance involving Montag and her husband at their nearby residence. Montag nearly struck a male adult walking his dog along the sidewalk. Montag’s reckless driving endangered nearby pedestrians, including children on their way to school both on bicycle and on foot. Nearby adults and an off-duty police officer took action to warn children and other pedestrians to keep out of the path of the Camry.

Montag drove back to her nearby Costa Mesa residence where her husband entered the Camry. The couple left the area, traveling north on Labrador at a high rate of speed. Arriving officers actively searched for the vehicle and dispatched a countywide police radio broadcast of their search for the vehicle. Officers staked out the Labrador area, and observed Montag return in her Camry shortly after 10:30 a.m. Officers arrested Montag without incident.

Montag had been arrested by Costa Mesa police one week prior. That incident also stemmed from a domestic violence incident allegedly involving Montag using her vehicle as a weapon to try and assault her husband. Prior to initiating this morning’s incident, Montag was out of custody on bail pending a court appearance on her earlier case.

Sandra Marie Montag, 48, was booked at Orange County Jail, Santa Ana per the listed charge of assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle). No persons were reported injured as a result of Montag’s actions this morning. No additional information is available for release. No booking photo of Montag is available for release at this time.
