Male arrested for approaching female students at OCC under the ruse of conducting a survey and then exposing himself

On Thursday, 10-17-13, shortly before 9 p.m. officers responded to meet with Orange Coast Community College Security staff in the parking lot at 2701 Fairview Rd. They had detained a suspect in a gray Hyundai Accent who was possibly involved in an earlier indecent exposure incident.

About one-half hour prior, an 18 year old female student reported to OCC Security staff that earlier that evening she had been approached by a suspicious male outside her parked car in the parking lot off of Merrimac Way. The male told her he was conducting a survey and subsequently began asking the female sexually explicit questions just before exposing his genitals to her.

Police officers questioned Patrick Balahan, who claimed he was a student at the campus. Balahan admitted to officers he had contacted and questioned the female earlier that evening; however, he denied exposing himself. Officers arrested Patrick B. Balahan, 20 years old of Irvine, for 314.1 PC and booked him at CMPD jail.

Police confirmed OCC Security staff had a list of female students who previously encountered a male on campus matching Balahan’s general description. No further details are being released at this time.
