Police Searching for Woman Who Assaulted Mother and Seriously Injured Infant

Jackson police are searching for a Jackson woman who attacked a mother and seriously injured an infant.

Jocilyn Taylor, 22, is wanted for simple assault on Sherita Phelps and reckless aggravated assault on Phelps' 4-month-old daughter in a Dec. 17 attack.

Around 12:50 p.m., police responded to a disturbance call at Royal Arms Apartments, 1580 N. Royal Street. The investigation determined that Phelps was bringing her daughter to see the father. The father is also Taylor's boyfriend.

Phelps knocked on the door while holding the infant. Taylor answered the door and started hitting Phelps. The attack caused Phelps to drop her daughter. The infant landed on her head and was injured.

The infant was transported to a local hospital and was transferred to LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis with a skull fracture. The infant has been released from the hospital.

Taylor is a black female, 5' 3" in height and weighs 135 pounds. Her last known address is in Royal Arms Apartments.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477 (TIPS). Submit a cyber tip at and click on “web tips”.
