Vehicle Into House Resulting in Arrest for DUI

Shortly after 1:30 am on 1/29/14, Costa Mesa police officers responded to the report of a car that had crashed into a residence along the 1600 block of Myrtlewood. 25-year old Lawrence Smith crashed his car into a residence at the location. Upon arriving, officers found the silver VW GTI Lawrence was driving had crashed into the front of the home. Lawrence, who was initially observed by witnesses walking away from the collision scene, was detained by neighbors until officers’ arrival. Lawrence was examined at the location and subsequently arrested for DUI. Lawrence was booked for felony DUI at CMPD Jail prior to being transferred to OC Jail, Santa Ana where his bail amount has been set for $100,000. Lawrence is on probation for two (2) prior DUI arrests.

The 24-year old male adult passenger, who had been riding with Lawrence, was taken by ambulance to Western Medical Center, Santa Ana to be treated for his complaint of chest pain. The 44-year old female resident of the Myrtlewood house, who was inside her residence at the time of the collision, was treated at Hoag Hospital for minor facial lacerations caused by flying debris from the collision.
