Today, 04-29-14, California Department of Food & Agriculture Officials are going door to door in CM neighborhoods

Officials have identified an ant known as the "Big Headed Ant" to be present in several neighborhoods within Costa Mesa.

Today, Tuesday 04-29 and possibly Wednesday 04-30, four to five workers from the California Department of Food & Agriculture will be going door to door looking for the presence of this ant species. These workers can/will identify themselves with proper State of California identification.

The Big Headed Ant (BHA) is native to Africa however has spread throughout the world. It is considered one of the worst invasive ant species. (The initial area to be covered is North of Adams Ave and East of the riverbed and within the blue circle. The secondary area to be covered is within the yellow circle)

If you suspect you have seen these ants, please call the California Department of Food & Agriculture Hotline at 1-800-491-1899.
If you have questions specific to officials being in your neighborhood, please contact Cesar Paredes, Program Supervisor III, at 1-619-698-0211
