Police Officers Administer CPR to Save Young Child's Life

On Monday, April 28, 2014, the police department received a 9-1-1 call reporting that a 4 year old child was not breathing after being pulled from a swimming pool. Police officers responded "code 3" (lights and sirens) to help administer aid prior to the fire department's arrival.

First on scene was officer Matt Olin. Matt immediately began administering CPR. Officer Nicole Brown then arrived and assisted Matt.

As paramedics arrived, the child began vomiting. Paramedics then transported the child to Hoag. By the time the paramedics reached Hoag, the child had regained consciousness.

Costa Mesa Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Vasin said, "The responding police officers' initial actions clearly started the chain of events that led to saving the child's life. The incredible teamwork and transfer of victim care between police and fire personnel at the scene was seamless."

This is just another great example of teamwork between the Costa Mesa Police and Fire Departments. Way to go!
