Large Sum of Money Found in Donated Coat

On June 8, during the afternoon, a Costa Mesa police officer met with an employee of the First Step House located at 2015 Charle Street in Costa Mesa. The employee handed over $3,300 cash he had just found in a clothing item which had been donated by an unknown male several hours earlier.

The employee explained the unknown male was in his mid-40’s and drove a white work van. The male did not leave any personal identifying information, and he merely explained he was donating numerous clothing items on behalf of a friend. After the donor drove away, the employee conducted a routine inspection of the clothing items donated by the male, when he discovered the cash in a coat. The employee turned the money over to police, believing the money was clearly not intended as part of the donated clothing items. No further details are being released at this time.

Anyone with information to help contact the male who left the money should immediately notify Costa Mesa Police Detectives at 714-754-5205.

*First Step House is a recovery facility to assist indigent men suffering from severe drinking problems.
