UPDATE: Missing Person at Risk in Encinitas FOUND SAFE

71-year-old John Fitzgerald was found safe on Sunday, just after 5:00 p.m. He was dehydrated. He was taken to a hospital for a checkup.

Someone walking along Encinitas Boulevard found Fitzgerald on a canyon, near an access road to an old landfill. The person who found Fitzgerald had received the Sheriff's email regarding the missing person search. We appreciate the public's help in looking out for Fitzgerald.

The North Coastal Sheriff’s Station wants your help in finding 71-year-old John Fitzgerald. He walked out of their home in the 1900 block of Jayton Lane in Encinitas around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 8th.

Family members say Fitzgerald suffers from Parkinson’s disease, dementia and asthma.

Fitzgerald was last seen wearing a red t-shirt, blue pants and black and blue sneakers walking along Willowspring Drive toward Cerro Street.

Deputies have searched nearby businesses, hospitals, trails and golf courses. Sheriff's ASTREA (helicopter) might be overhead helping to look for Fitzgerald. You might hear the helicopter or deputies using speakers/megaphones making announcements.
