Twin Brothers Arrested for Commercial Burglary After Short Pursuit in Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) arrested two twin brothers, Jamal and Jamel Walker, 42, Los Angeles, for commercial burglary after a short pursuit in Costa Mesa.

On Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, at approximately 7:25 a.m., officers were dispatched to a coin shop at the 1900 block of Harbor Boulevard, regarding suspicious circumstances. The reporting party watched through a security camera as two suspects, believed to be Jamal Walker and Jamel Walker, broke open the front door and stole property from inside. Their faces were covered. The suspects exited and fled in a vehicle prior to officers arriving.

An officer located the vehicle at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard. The suspects entered the northbound California State Route 55 at a high rate of speed, and officers initiated a pursuit. The suspects abruptly stopped on the #1 lane and fled eastbound on foot across the freeway and then across the drainage ditch onto Pullman. Officers established a perimeter. Glass breakage was heard at the 3000 block of Pullman and a broken window was discovered on the side of a nearby building. Officers covering the rear of the building saw both Walkers flee on foot southbound to the rear of another building at the 200 block of Kalmus. The Walkers gave up at that point and were taken into custody without further incident. The suspects’ vehicle was found to contain coins, gloves, and burglary tools. The arrestees were booked on burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, and evading peace officers with wanton disregard for safety.
