Narrative:
On Wednesday, November 22nd, during the evening hours, members of the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force were providing directed gang enforcement in the area of San Bernardino Ave and Indian Hill Blvd when they observed a black 2014 Honda Accord speeding eastbound on San Bernardino Ave toward Mills Ave. Due to the vehicles high rate of speed, Officers were unable to catch up to the vehicle until it entered the City of Montclair.

Officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. During the traffic stop, Officers were able to gain access into the vehicle where two loaded firearms were recovered. The driver, Angel Arellano, confessed to possessing the firearms. Arellano also admitted to being a Pomona gang member.

Due to Arellano's admittance to being a Pomona gang member, coupled with his confession to possessing two firearms, Officers believed Arellano may be concealing additional weapons within his residence. Major Crimes Task Force Officers obtained a search warrant for Arellano's residence located in the 800 block of Boston Pl, Pomona.

During the service of the search warrant, three additional firearms were located, to include an illegal assault rifle. Other illegal items recovered included a high-capacity magazine, several live ammunition rounds, brass knucles, and gang paraphernalia. As a result of the traffic stop and search warrant, Arellano was booked at the Pomona city jail on suspicion of;
  • 25850(c)(3) PC- Gang Member in Possession of a Loaded Firearm
  • 25850(c)(6) PC- Possession of an Unregistered Firearm
  • 30306(a) PC- Gang Member in Possession of Ammunition
  • 30605(a) PC- Possession of an Assault Rifle
A family member of Arellano, identified as George Cortes, was contacted at the residence during the service of the warrant. He was also placed under arrest for an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant.
