San Dimas High School Campus Determined Safe After Student Reports Possible Man with a Gun

San Dimas Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to San Dimas High School for a man with a gun call. The incident began on Friday, February 23, 2018, at approximately 10:00 p.m., at 800 Covina Boulevard, San Dimas.

A student from the school called a classmate and told her when she was leaving the school, after a rehearsal activity, she saw a man wave a gun near the trash dumpsters.

Deputies responded to the school, searched the campus and ensured the students and teachers remaining at the activity were safe. After the campus was rendered secure, and no one with a gun was found, deputies escorted the remaining students and staff to their vehicles, and/or a safe place to be picked up by parents.

It was later determined, that it was possible the caller saw a school employee emptying the trash, which in the dark and from a distance, may have looked like a gun.

No gun was found, nor was a gun seen by anyone else on campus.

The San Dimas Sheriff's Station continues to work with all of our area schools and communities to ensure safe campuses throughout the areas we serve. Students are encouraged that if they see something, say something. We want to do everything we can to keep students and schools safe.

The San Dimas Booster Club was established in 1991 to provide a means to raise money for the needs of auxiliary personnel and volunteers who work at the San Dimas Station.  The Booster Club has provided thousands of dollars for the purchase of equipment and supplies and to provide specialized training and education to volunteers.  Virtually all of the funding for these programs is through the efforts of the Booster Club, as neither the Sheriff’s Department nor the County of Los Angeles provides a budget for these services.  The San Dimas Sheriff’s Booster Club continues the proud tradition of meeting the needs of the volunteer/reserve program at the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station.  The Booster Club consists of people like yourself - residents, merchants, and business owners - who band together to make a positive difference in our community.  The Booster Club members and the Board of Directors are very proud of their accomplishments and invite you to join them in making this important program even more successful.  Please visit our website at: www.sdmsheriffsboosters.org.
