Fireworks are illegal and against city ordinance

Every year the Green Bay Police Department responds to hundreds of fireworks complaints. Though fireworks can be a spectacle to see, they are extremely dangerous and illegal. Residents who are in possession of fireworks without a permit may be subject to a Green Bay Municipal citation with a forfeiture amount of $367.00

Fireworks are illegal and extremely dangerous. Fireworks cause countless injuries from mishandling, improper use, and carelessness. To demonstrate how the dangerous and powerful fireworks are, the Green Bay Police Department and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department asked the Brown County Bomb Squad to detonate a 3-inch mortar which citizens can buy locally.

To illustrate how dangerous fireworks can be, the Bomb Squad ignited mortar which was placed inside a watermelon which caused the watermelon to explode. We encourage you to watch this video and think about what would happen if the mortar detonated in your or a person’s hand.

The video can be found on our department Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GreenBayPolice/videos/1736207769796076/

This 4th of July, leave the fireworks to the professionals. We strongly encourage you to attend the “Fire Over the Fox” fireworks celebration downtown. Please know that fireworks are illegal, extremely dangerous, and can cause extreme property damage. On behalf of the Green Bay Police Department and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July.
