RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY 1/6/10 7:49 P.M.
Police responded to a Summerhill Rd. home to investigate a report of a residential burglary. Police arrived to find the rear sliding glass door of the home had been shattered and the interior of the home had been ransacked. The homeowner had been out of the house for several hours before coming home and discovering the crime. $3,000.00 worth of jewelry was reported stolen by the victim. The Parsippany Rescue and Recovery Unit responded to secure the sliding doors. The scene was processed by the Morris County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigative Division and the incident is currently under investigation by the Parsippany Police Detective Bureau. Residents are urged to have lights in their home hooked up to timers and to leave a talk radio station playing in their homes when they are away to give the impression that the home is occupied. Expensive jewelry and valuables should be kept in an inconspicuous place in the home and not in the master bedroom, as this is the primary target of thieves. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact police at 973-263-4300.
