TWO ARMED ROBBERIES OCCURRED OVER WEEKEND 1/13/09
Police responded to the Shell Gas Station located at 3503 Rt. 46 East to investigate a report of an armed robbery that occurred at 5:45 A.M. on 1/10/10. The victim stated that a black male approached him while he was seated in the gas station’s cabin (small heated booth near pumps). The male asked to purchase tobacco products that are kept in the office. The employee walked into the office with the black male following him. Once inside of the office the male brandished a knife and demanded the money in the register. The employee picked up a large wooden stick and began yelling at the male who fled the area on foot. There were no proceeds taken during the incident. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a ski mask, a black jacket and black pants.
On 1/10/10 at 11:39 P.M., officers responded to the Quick Stop Food Market located at 1446 Rt. 46 to investigate a report of an armed robbery at that location. The victim stated that a black male approx. 5’ 8” tall wearing a black jacket, a black balaclava face mask, black gloves, black boots and blue jeans entered the store brandishing a handgun. The suspect ordered the clerk away from the register at gunpoint and took approx. $3,500.00 in cash from the register. The suspect then fled the store on foot.
Anyone with information regarding the incidents should contact Det. Thomas Lesiak at 973-263-4363 as soon as possible. Both locations are frequented by patrons during the hours in question. It is believed that the suspect either had a car parked in the vicinity or there was a vehicle awaiting him. Police are interested in talking to anyone that was in the area or saw anything unusual during the times in question.
