Emergency Medical Services(#EMS)Week will be celebrated by fire departments and ambulance companies May 16-22 More>

The EMS system is comprised of Dispatchers, Responders (EMT’s & Paramedics) and the staff that comprises the Emergency Room. The first use of 9-1-1 for emergencies started in 1968 and today, nationwide, 50 calls a minute are made for medical assistance. Fire departments and ambulances respond to everything from minor injuries to heart attacks, strokes and even delivering babies. EMTs and Paramedics receive intense training to handle these medical calls. These medical responders must also have knowledge, physical strength and compassion to deal with the emotional and physical toll the job creates. Many of the providers spend 24 or more hours on the job, missing sleep, family events and even holidays; so they will be ready to answer the call for help.
In 1971, Carole King and James Taylor wrote a song called “I’ll Be There”.
The lyrics
“You just call out my name,
and you know wherever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you got to do is call
and I’ll be there…”
This song embodies the dedicated men and woman of the EMS System. A system that is there 24 hours a day, every day of the year! If you know someone that works or volunteers in the Emergency Medical Service, take a moment this week to thank them.
