Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad detonated a grenade found in Fairview Park on Tuesday, 05-28-13

On Tuesday, 05-28-13, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad detonated a grenade found in Fairview Park. Shortly before 6 p.m., an elderly male contacted Costa Mesa Fire personnel at the Fire Station across from Estancia High School. He advised them he had found a grenade near the walking trails in the northern part of Fairview Park.

Costa Mesa Fire Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad personnel located the World War II or Vietnam War era hand grenade near the newly constructed duck ponds. It appeared the grenade had possibly been dug up by an animal near its burrow. For precautionary measures, the bomb squad safely detonated the grenade, believed to be inert, in the park away from residents.
