GET OUT THE VOTE SANTA ANA - STUDENT AMBASSADOR COMPETITION

SANTA ANA – In partnership with the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) and Santa Ana College, the City of Santa Ana is proud to present the Student Ambassador Competition, a quest to increase voter registration, participation, and civic engagement.

A special presentation to kick-off the competition will be held at the regularly scheduled Santa Ana City Council Meeting on October 4, 2016 at 5:45 p.m. at the Council Chambers, 20 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana. All are invited to attend the kick-off presentation and learn more about this first of its kind partnership and competition.

This competition presents a wonderful opportunity for the youth in our community to showcase their creativity, all while learning about the electoral process first hand.

Councilmember Reyna, said “[We are] enthusiastic about working with Santa Ana College and Santa Ana Unified School District to help encourage the millennials to exercise their right to vote. We would like to thank SAUSD and Santa Ana College for their partnership and for making this experience valuable for our youth and a great investment in our future leaders.”

Equally, Councilmember Benavides expressed support for the initiative. “We are confident Santa Ana youth will develop innovative concepts which will be popular with their generation including the use of social media. Ultimately, it is most important for them to have a voice and get out and vote. The City has made significant investments in youth programs and this is just another example of our deep level of commitment.”

“This opportunity will bring our college students together with other youth in our city in an effort to employ their civic responsibility through talent and skills. Our student leaders are ready to fully participate in this effort and will encourage all our students to engage in this competition,” Teresa Mercado-Cota, Assistant Dean of Student Services, Santa Ana College.
