Child Annoyance Arrest

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, at about 8 a.m., 34-year-old Corona resident Robert Sanchez Banuelos was arrested for the misdemeanor of Child Annoyance.

Banuelos was identified by a 13-year-old female and her 12-year-old sister as the person who approached them in the area of Cota Street and Parkridge Avenue on Halloween. The sisters were walking home from school on Oct. 31, 2016 when Banuelos, who was accompanied by a female child, struck up a conversation with them. During the conversation, Banuelos made comments, laced with profanity, about female body parts of a former teenaged acquaintance of his, which made the sisters very uncomfortable. Their parents found out about this incident about a week later and called the Corona Police Department.

Corona Police Patrol Officers were already investigating Banuelos when this incident was reported. On Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2016, Banuelos had similarly approached other young girls who were walking in the same area and struck up conversations with them. Based on the content of those conversations, as reported by the minors, there were no criminal violations at that time. Corona Police officers contacted Banuelos after both of those reports and documented his actions. Once the report of the sisters was received, investigators determined a criminal violation had occurred that ultimately led to Banuelos’ arrest.

Banuelos was later booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in downtown Riverside.

Parents are urged to talk with their children and encourage them to report to an adult they trust any conversations they have with anyone, whether they are strangers or people known to them, which make them feel uncomfortable.

Corona Police investigators are asking that parents of any other minors whom Banuelos has approached to contact Sr. Detective Gail Gottfried at 951-736-2420 or email
