Assault by Auto - Arrest

On March 2, 2018 at approximately 10:02pm Officer Rudolph was on a traffic post in his marked patrol vehicle on Rt. 322 diverting traffic onto Rt. 50 due to downed wires in the roadway. A 2002 Volkswagen was traveling west on Rt. 322 and failed to yield to Officer Rudolph’s emergency lights and directions and crashed into the front of his patrol vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Isaiah Rasul Muhammad Smith (22/M) of Mays Landing.

Smith caused significant damage to both his vehicle and Officer Rudolph’s patrol vehicle. Officer Rudolph sustained serious injuries from the crash and was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for treatment. Smith was uninjured and subsequently arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He was issued summons for careless driving, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating a vehicle without a seatbelt, failure to yield to an officer’s direction, and failure to move over.

On May 30, 2018, Smith was charged with Assault by Auto (3rd degree) and Possession of Marijuana (disorderly persons offense), as a result of the crash investigation. The charges were placed on a summons and Smith was transported back to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he is lodged on unrelated charges.
