Commercial Burglary & K-9 Apprehension of Suspect (19-6728)

On 5/23/2019 at 3:57am, officers were dispatched to 4th Street Market and Deli at 300 Mendocino Av, regarding a “glass break” alarm.  An SRPD K-9 handler and his partner “Kolt,” arrived on scene within two minutes of the initial dispatch.  The K-9 handler noticed a male suspect inside the business, crouching down and trying to hide.  There were numerous items broken and strewn around the business.  After additional units arrived on scene, the K-9 handler made several loud announcements for the suspect to come out from hiding, but he refused.
It was unknown if the suspect was alone, had a weapon, or was attempting to flee into a residential building behind this location.  The K-9 handler gave one more announcement, but the suspect again refused to come out of hiding.  Kolt was deployed into the business and within seconds apprehended the suspect.  The suspect was placed into handcuffs and officers rendered medical aid for a dog bite to the suspect’s forearm.  The suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance and later booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
The suspect, Kenneth Fuller, a 69-year-old male from Santa Rosa, was arrested for 459 PC – Burglary, 594(b)(1) PC – Felony Vandalism, and 148(a)(1) PC – Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer.
